Jon Udell Interviews Richard Wallis
In this second part of a pair of interviews Richard Wallis, Talis Technology Evangelist, is interviewed by Microsoft Evangelist Jon Udell. Jon, author, information architect, software developer, new media innovator, and Internet commentator, produces the Interviews with Innovators series of podcasts on IT Conversations.
This series of two Talking with Talis conversations is the result of a novel call between Jon and Richard in which they interviewed each other.
In this second episode, Jon interviews Richard about Talis, the Talis Platform, the philosophy behind it.
Richard Wallis is a technology evangelist for Talis, a UK-based provider of library systems which has chosen to base its next-generation platform on semantic web technologies. The company doesn't talk about its mission in those terms, though. In a white paper, it describes the mission of the new platform as: "Harnessing mass collaboration on a global scale." As Richard Wallis explains:
"The people who are building real applications, and deriving real benefit, don't give two hoots about RDF and triple stores. They just want the effects."

100 Days at the MLA – Roy Clare talks with Talis
Departmental right-sizing, transferring functions out of London to Birmingham, placing programs on hold, and even an appearance at a Talis Conference have all been part of Roy Clare’s first 100 days.
The MLA’s enthusiastic new Chief Executive talks with Richard Wallis about the place and purpose of the organization, it’s challenges, and the opportunities for England’s Museums Archives and Libraries. Coming from several years working with biodegrading monuments at the National Maritime Museum, Roy is obviously up for the challenge.
